The true mark of successful storytelling is the ability to hold an audience captive. Miller mastered that art as a child by recounting wild tales to her family who couldn’t escape unless they wanted to forfeit dinner. From that modest beginning, she refined her craft and established a professional writing career, placing feature articles and short stories in national and regional publications, and publishing numerous books.

Currently, Miller lives on five acres in the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas, in a setting much like the central part of her home state of Michigan, just not as cold for as long. The pinetrees are different, too – Pondorosa Pines instead of Jack Pines. It is a wonderful place to pursue creative endeavors and a morning walk often brings a new photograph or unravels a plot snarl in the latest book.

Her family includes 6 children and 8 grandchilren, with a couple of grand dogs and grand cats thrown into the mix. While she is very proud of her accomplishments as a writer, her greatest pride is for her family.

Maryann loves to “play” on stage, and she is the Theatre Director at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts, where she especially likes working with young performers during the annual Youth Drama Camp. When not involved with the theatre in Winnsboro, she has appeared in numerous productions at the Main Street Theatre in Sulphur Springs, Texas. She was thrilled to play Martha Brewster in “Arsenic and Old Lace”, Mildred in “Squabbles”, and Mama Wheelis in “Daddy’s Dyin’ Whose Got the Will”. Her most recent role was Big Mama in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.” No, she did not appear on stage in her slip. That was Maggie.

When not working or playing on stage, Miller enjoys her time at “Grandma’s Ranch” where she lives with one horse, one goat, one sheep, one dog, and four cats. The cats rule.
