I know, I know. It’s not Sunday, and not even a regular blog day, so why on earth am I doing a review on Thursday? It’s because there is a release party today for a new book in the Jane Delaney Mystery Series by Pamela Burford. I received an advanced review copy of the book and enjoyed the read very much.

Short Synopsis: Death Diva Jane is simply going about her business, which in this case requires her to empty a three-liter spigot box of cheap rosé on a grave, when she and her furry sidekick Sexy Beast make a grisly discovery in the town cemetery.
The victim was murdered three decades ago, but memories are fresh and old grievances fresher as facts come to light and fingers start pointing. Naturally Jane must investigate. Well, what would you do if one of your best pals turned out to be Suspect Numero Uno?
Meanwhile, between her amorous ex and a sexy bad boy who keeps popping up in the most distracting way—not to mention the (creepy? bizarre? pathetic?) guys she’s meeting through a dog lovers’ dating site—her love life has never been so (creepy? bizarre? pathetic?)… interesting.
Review: This is a fun, quick read on a summer day. I enjoyed meeting Jane, a sassy, smart protagonist who manages to get into and out of trouble by her own efforts. Well, in this book she had help from mother nature who uprooted more than just a tree in the cemetery. Still Jane manages to solve the crime with only a little help from her human friends and just a tad from Sexy Beast.
I enjoyed the humor – Jane is a funny, funny lady – and the reader is drawn more closely into the story by her comments to us. This one comes when she has taken Dom – her ex – with her when she is going to confront a suspect. She doesn’t actually take him. He insists on going with her, but she doesn’t object. “Does that make me a helpless little female, looking to the big strong man to keep her safe?
“Thanks a lot. The correct answer was no.”
The mystery is intriguing, and the reader is kept guessing along with Jane, as she tries to prove that her best friend did not kill Ernie.
